I'm Not Hungry But I Could Eat by Christopher Gonzalez

  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes

The narration on this one was hit or miss for me: Tony Chiroldes was fantastic, however, there was one narrator that I viscerally disliked, and I ended up skipping one of the stories he narrated because I just couldn't stand to listen to his voice any more.

There were a few gems in this collection of short stories about contemporary Boricua gay and bisexual men. I enjoyed "Packed White Spaces", about wypipo holding a party to celebrate the purchase of their new washing machine, and "Little Moves", which I credit with having the best line in the book:
"What comes after could prevent this from being a happy memory. He'll cauterize reality instead."

I appreciated the breadth of characters the stories and that some, <spoiler like the protagonist in "Better Than All That" were downright unlikable.
