The Ancestor's Tale: A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Evolution by Richard Dawkins
2.0
I must confess to be an obtuse minded reader. I started off on this huge tome, having just enjoyed thoroughly, Dawkins' The God Delusion. I was soon struggling after page 35 to keep up with all the scientific nomenclature and theories/diagrams that complimented the other. I tried to persevere, latching on to the "tales" that the author promises, but my own shortcomings overcame my interest and tedium set in.
No doubt, this is a tome that nearly 40% (and counting) have rated with 5 stars. I find it might be of interest more to academics and intellectuals with a scientific bent of mind but frankly, I just could not keep up. It is unfair to provide a 2 star rating, but that is how I feel after trying hard to read a book that is available in the public domain.
Frankly, I preferred (and thoroughly enjoyed) Harari's Sapiens to Dawkins' tracking of our evolution. A much easier, most educative and entertaining reading experience than The Ancestor's Tale!
