Burning Roses by S.L. Huang
5.0

This was a fantastic and creative retelling. S.L. Huang has a really descriptive way of writing that is poetic without being too purple prose-y. I loved how complicated both heroines were (well narrators, they weren't exactly heroes). I loved how the Red Riding Hood story was retold and Goldilocks and Beauty and the Beast. And how those stories were woven together and mixed with Chinese lore as well was very well done.

I just purchased Huang's trilogy and I'm very much looking forward to reading them. If they are as well written and as clever as this short novella then I'm certain the trilogy will become a surefire favorite of mine.
