Miranda July is one of my all-time favorite authors at this point. She's top 3? I've loved everything she's written but this is perhaps her best?! It reads like autofiction but it's still incredibly weird, the weirdness mixed with realism Miss July is known for. All Fours unpacks aging, evolving relationships, and fertility with such care and nuance. At many points in this book, I had to stop to appreciate how good the writing is. I highlighted an obscene amount of quotes. Here are some of my favorites:

"Mostly you put concealer on and then later took it off and nothing life-changing had happened in between."

"I whispered I love you one night, it felt natural enough—also preposterous. Who was the you in that sentence? I’d said it like cowboys say Yeehaw! Meaning, I’m really on this horse right now and I wanna make some noise about it!"

"But thoughts don’t work like that—you don’t pick them like pears from a tree, they just fall on your head"

Thank you Riverhead Books and Edelweiss for the ARC. All Fours comes out on 5/14/2024.
