Simply stunning. The characters are heartbreakingly real and their many struggles are impossible not to feel along with them. The ghosts that haunt this family are complex and agonizing, helping and hurting the characters as they navigate their racial and generational trauma in prose that is both lyrical and unflinching. Truly among the most powerful and devastating books I’ve ever read.
