Ocean: Earth's Last Wilderness by David Attenborough, Colin Butfield
4.0
adventurous challenging informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

This book title equates “Ocean” with “Earth” as if one is integral to the other which is true and the rest of the book continues to illustrate how and why this belief is proven. For over 70 years, Sir David Attenborough has enjoyed a career as a British broadcaster, biologist, naturalist and author focusing on natural history. Known for his award-winning wildlife documentaries. Such programs as Planet Earth, Blue Planet, and Frozen Planet as well as his distinctive voice and his earliest work featuring animals and habitats has come to mean the natural world and its inhabitants. Recently this body of work has expanded to include climate change and conservation.  Colin Butfield has spent over 25 years focusing on communication with the general public on such scientific investigations. His work has involved organizations around the world (WWF, United Nations climate and biodiversity programs) to bring their knowledge to the world. Together with Sir David, they have created this book to highlight the latest theories and investigations into how the Ocean (inclusive of all major bodies of water, ice and wetlands) influences every climate and weather system around the world.  It affects not only the water we drink but the air we breathe, the land we live on, habitats (explored and unexplored), and the climate we live in.

Drawing almost a century of knowledge of these areas and the natural history of our environments it looks at how we can live in and provides an understanding of how these issues can occur. The hope lies with how forgiving our natural world can be instrumental in its recovery. Recommend to readers of nonfiction, science, nature, the environment and the ecology.

Ocean has been made into a documentary film available on many streaming services (Hulu, Fubo, YouTube, Disney, Sling premium subscription). A trailer for this film is available at
