The Guinevere Deception
by Kiersten White
4.5/5
I had a really great time reading The Guinevere Deception. I'm not overly familiar with the details of the Arthurian legend beyond the very basics, so I'm not sure how much of this is true to the canon and how much of it diverges, but I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and the characters that we meet throughout the book. Guinevere was an enjoyable protagonist to follow - she's loyal, kind and clever with her use of magic but also has a sense of naivety to her that was endearing. The plot wasn't overly predictable and there were a number of little twists and turns that genuinely surprised me which was great - I've read a few reviews that say the plot moved too slowly for them but I disagree, I felt like the pacing was great and kept me asking questions without revealing too much at once. And finally, the little hints of romance that we get throughout the book have me excited too. I don't like romance that dominates the plot of the book but what we get here is very slight and just the right level to keep me intrigued without irritating me.
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is just because I try to be stingy with that rating and only give it to books that really "wow" me, but I still loved The Guinevere Deception and I'll be eagerly awaiting the next books in the series!
