A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer

I have been meaning to read this book since middle school and I finally decided to pick it up. I’m glad that I read it at this age and not earlier because every word and every sentence is extremely painful to read. I felt his fear, his pain, his anger, his sadness and I was just reading Dave Pelzer’s experience with child abuse with utter shock and disbelief. People like his mother exist in this world which just disgusts me and fills me with hatred. The fact that we live in a world where people can severely abuse an innocent child fills me with something that the word hatred can’t explain. And it makes me feel hopeless knowing that there are millions of kids out there experiencing child abuse at this very moment that others may not be aware of.

Dave Pelzer’s courage to survive, have hope, and create a better life for himself despite all that has happened to him proves the unwavering strength of the human spirit. His willingness to continue life despite the fact that his mother made his life a living hell shows that humans can endure anything and come out alive and change the course of their life. I wish I could give little Dave and the millions of other children and victims it abuse around the world a tight hug and ensure them that everything was going to be okay. I am really really really grateful to all the people and agencies focusing on this issue and taking measures to prevent it. No child or adult should have to go through this pain.
