Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers
5.0

What a great start to my Christmas Eve.

After a long and dreadful wait, I finally got to read Mortal Heart and man, was it worth it. I like how Mortal Heart didn't follow the same formula of Going-Out-On-An-Assassin-Mission like the previous two books, but offered something different. Notably, this book wasn't as action-packed as Dark Triumph or Grave Mercy, which were chockfull of poison, swords, knifes and sneaking around, but it redeemed itself with the amazing plot and character development.

Not to mention the plot twists. Oh yes, the major plot twists that made me mentally scream in befuddlement. The romance between Annith and Balthazaar was awfully adorable too, so that's a plus. Also, it would have been nice to see more interaction between the other two pairs in Mortal Heart, but alas, we don't always get what we want in life.

Moving on, I felt the ending was a little anti-climatic and could have been better elaborated and prolonged. It kinda just ended abruptly, which was a downer because I was hoping to read more of the series (600 pages and three instalments isn't enough).

Nonetheless, The Fair Assassin series has brought me great joy and made lovely company during the worst of days. It would be one of the books I go around gushing about and recommending it to everyone because..... Mmmm, Mortain.
