The xenophobia is fantasy based all of the characters in this book are white (Viking inspired), but there is xenophobic remarks made about the Viking inspired farm folk by (the Anglo Saxon inspired) royalty and sorcerers.
Although the FMC never says it directly, it is implied that she experienced marital rape (dubious consent) in her first marriage. I’m assuming this because Brynn, the FMC, tells Cenric, the MMC, that her first husband was not gentle with her during sex, but she endured it because she wanted a child.
