Where the Red Fern Grows
by Wilson Rawls
This was my favorite book when I was a kid. My fourth grade teacher read it to my class and I loved it so much that I couldn't stop talking about it. Somebody eventually bought it for me and I read it again (first book I ever re-read). I've had it on my bookshelf ever since. For the past year I've considered re-reading it, but was afraid it wouldn't be as good as an adult. I'm so glad I finally decided to read it. It was just as good as I remembered. Definitely the best dog story I've ever read (and I read a lot as a kid). I sobbed hysterically at the end--the hard to breath sort of sobs. This is by far one of my all time favorite kids' books.
