First Test by Tamora Pierce

5.0

Give me a disadvantaged apprentice being picked on by a group of over entitled bullies and I'm hooked every single time (*cough Mercedes Lackey*).

Kel is the first girl to legitimately train to become a knight, but first faces a year of probation and during that year copes with all hazing given to first year pages along with the discrimination against women.

Like all Pierce female characters Kel is wildly talented to the point of being slightly unbelievable but luckily this brought back a notch by installing a few physical and personality quirks. I find Kel's personality much more engaging than Daine's thankfully, looking forward to the rest of the series.
