The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
by Mark Twain
I read this so that I could read James, but I found this so hard to get through. Some silliness was sweet, but the dehumanization of Jim was hard to stomach, even understanding that the book was a product of its time. But the last plot point was so hard to get around I couldn’t even enjoy the silly factor that was endearing about the rest of the book.
Excited to read James and hopefully is worth it!! First page of James and he has already summed up my discomfort with this entire novel (spoken from Jim’s POV): “they were always playing some kind of pretending game where I was either a villain or prey, but certainly their toy.”
