A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher

5.0

This was a fun book to read. Although it was dark in places (e.g., the first sentence of the book; lots of teens in peril), there was this thin layer of humor throughout. The book probably qualifies as YA -- the main character is a 14-year-old girl, a dough wizard who wonders about her place in the world -- but it is mostly a mystery/thriller/fantasy novel. I think this book will appeal mostly to people who like to read fantasy novels.

Recommended for ages 12+ (due to dark themes, periodic violence and peril)
