This book is very well-written, comprehensive, and one of my favorites. That said, it only gets three stars because it sort of goes off the rails at one point,
Spoiler and there's a rather large dose of blame the victim in it- the same kind of BS that's been used to hold women responsible for their men cheating for centuries. Also, why on earth are other people lecturing their friends and telling them it's their fault their lover cheated and how dare they not take them back? You should never make someone feel bad about being hurt and choosing to walk away from the person who hurt them

Jake is an excellently written character, flawed, but constantly trying. A lot of the secondary characters are also well-written, not caricatures but normal, if frustrated, coworkers and friends. Some of them are ridiculously interfering and act as if they have a right to dictate their friends' happiness, but luckily those are few and far between. Tor could be better-developed. We don't really get a good understanding of what he did from his point of view, and as such, it's difficult to justify how the author somehow makes what he did mostly Jake's fault, or to forgive him.
