The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
3.0
Oh I wanted to love this book.
I tore through the first quarter or so. The premise was interesting, and it was delightful to get just little pieces of background, just enough to understand what was before you. Around 40% of the way in, it lost me. I probably would have enjoyed this more if I was more of a fantasy reader. The main character is interesting but I felt a good number of other characters were rushed or otherwise underdeveloped in ways that kind of felt like a letdown. There were also some details sprinkled it seemingly at random that would jar me out of the book as I looked up if I somehow missed that or if it was actually just randomly placed in there.
This is such an interesting book, I think I was just not the right reader for it.
