Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman
5.0
Audiobook Review
CW/TW: death/dying, beheading, knives, stabbing, murder, cremation, suicide*, depression, bigotry, racism, ableist slurs, ableism, body horror, mention of metal illnesses, fatmisia, fat shaming, recreational drinking, drowning, shark attack, gore, violence, mention of neck breaking, body harvesting
1a. My favourite character in this entire book is The Thunderhead, thank you.
1b. Holy shit but (reader) did the most incredible job reading this. I fell more in love with this book because of the way it was read to me. Everything sounded so realistic and perfect and— I cannot wait to get lost to this voice when I listen to the third book (please don't let the voice change oh great Thunderhead).
2. I'm not a fan of the protagonists only because it feels like a cop-out after everything that happened in the first book. I wanted to be introduced to bigger and better villains not be walked down memory lane as I was here. Like I wanted to discover “badder” protagonists outside of the book one protagonists.
Its not to say that the protagonists were bad or anything, because holy shit they are batshit coocoo bananas. But I still felt a little cheated, you know. Like there could've been so much more that was inspired by the death of Goddard, like him being a martyr for the other Scythes who saw his way of gleaning as the best way of life, you know.
But instead it wasn't like that and I felt kind of like meeh. But it's whatever.
3.
Book One: A licence to glean
Book Two: May the Fork be with you
Cannot wait to know what book three will have
