This book has been on my tbr for a while now, and I figured that it was finally time to get to it. I’ve never read a Rachel Harrison book before but I’ve heard good things so I was excited to get to it. The idea of religious commentary mixed with problematic family dynamics sounded really interesting.

I feel like the story started strong, but became weaker as it progressed. I thought that it was pretty predictable, but it kept me entertained. Some parts read like YA, which is not a bad thing but it was not what I was expecting. However, the YA feel definitely made it easy to picture some kind of film adaptation. I didn’t find any of the characters to be likable but I’m pretty sure that was the point. The horror elements were also pretty light so I think it would appeal to people who don’t usually read the genre.

I was expecting a bit more than the book gave me, but it was not bad by any means. I am also curious to read Such Sharp Teeth to see if that Rachel Harrison book sticks with me more than this one did. Though predictable, the story was still an entertaining read so it’s worth checking out.
