Vespertine

Well...
A lot of conflicting feelings about this story.
At first I won't deny I was a bit uncomfortable with the concept of a priest in a romance novel. It's a first for myself.
It was a bit unsettling despite the fact that I am not necessarily religious.
The writer's did this justice though because they took their time with the physical aspect of the relationship.
Letting us get to know Father Jasper as a human being rather than just a reflection of religion and the Catholic Church.
Father Jasper's evolution from the sanctimonious priest to the sensitive and vulnerable man that Nicky brings out of him was my favorite part of this story. Watching the walls crumble and the reality of their past that he's buried peak its head out. Really well done.
Nicky on the other hand was an open book. I felt instantly connected with him, though I still don't understand what attachment disorder is? I didn't feel like that was explained well enough and it was mentioned multiple times. Though his addiction felt incredibly believable and I really understood the struggles he was facing.
These two together definitely had passion in their communication and there non-sexual moments. However, the sex scenes did fall a bit flat for me.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about this writing duo, I prefer them separately, together it felt like the magic of their individual writing sort of cancelled one another out. It felt a bit too choreographed for my taste instead of flowing seamlessly.
I can't say this a win for me, however I did enjoy it and audio-narrator was incredibly good. Like I said, a bit conflicted.
I just want to say the MC's love for one another was believable, it's the plot itself that didn't quite flow naturally for me. So I am settling on 3 stars and sticking to these writers individual work rather then their combined efforts.
