Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan
2.0
Jenny Colgan is writing at her best when a plucky young heroine decides to take her life in to her own hands and turn a passion into a livelihood. It takes all their grit and determination and a lot of gutsy courage, but every sale and each new recipe is one step closer to that dream.
Her last few novels have fallen flat and I realised it's because that passion and determination is missing. Polly, so intent on being independent and HAPPY worked hard at the small moments that brought her joy. This time, even though she was starting over again, she had no fight, no pluck, and did an awful lot of feeling sorry and sad about everything.
While I have no right to fault her for that considering how guilty I am of the same, it completely stole the magic that made Colgans books so wonderfully uplifting and amazing to me.
