orangeblood 's review for:
Middlesex
by Jeffrey Eugenides
I must say that this book really surprised me -- it was nothing like I expected. Narrated by the main character, Calliope (Cal) Stephanides, it's an epic tale stretching back to a small Greek village in the early 1920s and ending in 1970s Detroit. Along the way we follow through three entertaining generations the gene that causes 5-alpha-reductase deficiency in Cali. It's long but never seems long... well-written and engaging throughout.
