Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman

adventurous hopeful inspiring fast-paced

I haven’t read this book in decades and yet the little bird remains within me, perhaps a crooked offspring of Emily’s feathered thing.  It goes with me into every conversation I have, every book I read, every movie I watch. Endlessly asking; “Are you myself?”  Max Cohen are you myself? Godfrey and Dunstan are you myself? Henry Crawford are you myself? Troy Chatham are you myself? The answer is never yes, and yet when the night is dark and the shadows on the wall move oh so quickly, the little bird is not sure. And so he runs and hides from the awful thing he has seen mirrored there.
