“Killing someone isn’t the only way to destroy them. Keeping you from reaching your potential seems like a great path to the retribution he swore against our mother.“

I found that I LOVED the rider/dragon relationships so much, and honestly if Yarros wanted to explore that alone, I’d be more than satisfied! I also really enjoyed Mira & Violet’s relationship so much—give me all the sibling dynamics & found family vibes 😌

There’s lore aplenty, but ngl some of the politics, creature elements, and history of the story went over my head OOOPS! It was just a lot of info-dumping at times (although a great grounding strategy, having your MC recite dragon facts or geography as exposition is mehhh writing).
I think because this is told through only Violet’s POV, the world-building is shakey and limited due to who she is and how propaganda has shaped how she operates in her world. Like I know that they’re in a war, but it doesn’t seem like it. I’m curious to see what happens in the next book as the world expands & we learn more about Aretia and the revolution.

Despite that, Yarros has good pacing and an engaging plot. I was rooting for Violet at every corner and twist!
