Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
3.0

Out Stealing Horses was my July book club book and we had some interesting discussions about it. Out Stealing Horses is set in Norway. The book goes back and forth between Trond as a seventy year old man in 1999 and flashes back to the summer of 1948. That summer was a memorable and good summer but it also marked the last he spent with this father. Trond moves to a remote cabin in Norway after his wife dies in a car accident. There memories of the summer of 1948 come back to him.

The writing is very simple and direct but still held a lot of power. You could picture the emptiness, the silence, the snow whiteness & blankness of the landscape. Overall, I liked the book for the writing and setting but there were just two many unanswered questions left at the end of the book.
