The Woman in Black
by Susan Hill
Wolfed down this book even at an airport and on a loud plane (got it at an airport bookstore!)
Also was shocked it wasn’t older?
It’s a full blown classic ghost story with fantastic tension and building dread, perfectly teasing out mysteries and things unsaid.
I just have two problems with it, one of which is likely moreso due to having seen the film over a decade ago by now:
1. Once the haunted house is finally arrived at, there is simply too much too quickly insofar as the paranormal goes, and it kinda dulls all the great build up we just had.
2. The actual clues presented are pretty minimal and also paint a fairly obvious picture even individually, so there’s not much fun in speculating.
Generally really liked it, though. Reading ANY book in five days is nuts for me. And that’s WITH jet lag!
