In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park, Maryanne Vollers

4.0

During the month of November I'm going to be focusing on nonfiction books -- Nonfiction November. I chose this book first because I've read so many good things about it. OK ... So, on to my review.

I can't even imagine!

In Order to Live is the horrifying story of Yeonmi Park's life in and eventual escape from North Korea.

It is a heartbreaking tale of the abuses Yeonmi and her mother were subjected to after they finally made their way to China.

She ultimately made her way to South Korea and freedom. Today, still in her early twenties, she is a human rights activist working diligently to raise awareness of what is happening in North Korea.

After reading her memoir, I was so thankful that I was born in a free country. Indeed, I'm not sure I could survive what Ms. Park lived through.
