I read this after I read the newly out, James by Percival Everett. I hadn’t remembered much of this book from when I was in middle school. And I remembered even less than a thought (although I did remember hating it). The adventure and action of it all is not for me. I love the relationships and interaction between characters but some of the writing seemed lazy in its use of dialogue to explain everyone’s perspective on an event. Reading Huckleberry after James makes me want to read them at once, one scene at a time. I think I’d fall in love even deeper with James if I found the time to do that.
