Fractured Fates
by Hannah Haze
Good
Rhianna Blackwaters has lived her life in hiding from the magical authorities, but after her aunt’s death, she finds herself captured by the Man in Black, one of the Magical Government’s hunters. With her pet pig; the only person (both human and non-human) left in the world she cares for, she’s forced to enroll in The Arrow Hart Academy, and that’s where her newest troubles begin.
An outcast in the magical world, she’s bullied by the popular kids, targeted by the weak, and ostracized by the rest (except for her roommate and fellow outcast Winnie).
She’s also forced to realise just how much has been kept from her, and how little she knows about the magical world, or her magical gifts…
Bully romance is an understatement when it comes to this book. Our heroine is targeted by mean girl Summer, but also by the two most popular males; Spencer and Tristan, and a few professors; including love interest Stone. Even the Man in Black isn’t always acting in her best interests, though he finds her intriguing.
There is no room for doubt, the males of interest are not good people.
Stone, Spencer, and Tristan, go out of their way to humiliate her, and make her uncomfortable, and if you aren’t a fan of other woman drama, then you’ll hate this book- the love interests often have other women in their lives, and do in fact engage with them too.
Given the nickname “Pig Girl”, Rhianna is determined to figure a way out of her forced attendance, or maybe she’ll figure out a way to use what she learns, so that she can survive.
It’s a good story, despite the horrendous bullying, primarily because Rhianna isn’t a weak character, and doesn’t give in. She’s determined, and resilient, and not at all caring of what other people think, which helps give her inner strength, allowing her to persevere.
It ends on a mild cliffhanger, a 3/5 trauma scale rating- life changing not threatening.
This is a good read for the bully romance and RH fantasy romance fans out there.
