This started out pretty strong. The near-future setting is very believable and with everything that is going on in the world at the moment, felt quite prescient, and more than a little disturbing. The way in which Blue comes into the world was interesting, and the 'first contact' elements. The discussion on sexuality and gender was very forward- thinking for the time of writing, so that was appreciated. However, though I don't really like to use the word, it became somewhat pretentious. The prose became quite pompous and the story kind of dwindled. It seemed like the book should have ended two chapters before it did. Also, it really lost me when
Morgan sleeps with Blue, who she has essentially raised as a child
