The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
3.0
I really want to like Gaiman. On paper his books are perfect for me, for some reason I just can't get into his works. I've read almost all of them with exception on his mythology stories and I l can't really put my finger on why his pieces just seem mediocre to me.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane was an interesting perspective on childhood memories and how they're somewhat wistful and sometimes difficult to remember. With all my hesitance towards Gaiman and his works, I still managed to enjoy this one quite a but more than some of his others.
The slight horror aspects made it more intriguing especially since I was reading this in October. I appreciate the fantastical world that was created and how all the magic done is shrouded in mystery through the eyes of a child. Overall, if you enjoy his other works, you'll most likely enjoy this one, if you don't, then maybe give it a chance if you're a fan of modern fairy tales, you might be surprised. It's a short read and the ending was satisfying. I dont regret reading the book but I'm not sure that I'll read it again.
