Mr. Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange

2.0

No thank you. I love Pride and Prejudice and I am never above reading a bit of chick-lit fluff, however I was not thrilled with this book at all.
Darcy's writing followed the skeleton of P&P and offered very little else. Many of the journal entries seemed forced. It was somewhat helpful to cite what the Bennet's were doing as a reference to approximatly where in the original text the entery was happening. As a reader I was thankful for this, but wished for a smoother way to integrate these plot points in.
There were a few wonderful moments where Amanda Grange took liberty to give Darcy real emotion. I understand wanting to stick true to Austen, but as a different author writing a different book (merely based on P&P) I expected some creativity. It felt more like Grange was imprisoned by the constraints of the original story than inspired by them.
I would read this book again only because of my fascination with the Pride and Prejudice, but I liken it to a glorified fan fiction (with less typos) one might find online.
