This was my first time reading this book and I have to admit it was better than I expected. I knew there were places that the author would wander off into scientific explanations and I thought it might end up being dry and confusing, but instead, I found it pretty interesting, partly because it was neat to see what he envisioned about futuristic advanced science. It was also interesting just how little we knew about the ocean depths, but while we know a lot more now, the percentage of what we know has probably not increased by that much. There is so much we still don't know about the earth, especially in the very deep parts of the ocean, and to me, that is pretty fascinating. Sadly, like the rainforest, there are probably millions of species that have gone extinct that we will never know existed. I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this, but I'm glad I finally gave it a try!
