Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb

emotional funny hopeful reflective medium-paced

5.0

This book was really incredible. I’m not the biggest fan of “self-help” books as I find them preachy and task-oriented, and I’m not really likely to do anything they suggest (maybe that’s more about me, though). This book, while about therapy, was not what I expected at all. It was anecdotal, told in stories of Gottlieb’s patients (clients) as well as her own sessions in therapy with her therapist. I found pieces of myself in each of her patients, and I was rooting for a happy outcome for all of them - whatever happy may be. It made me reflect on my own life, my own time in therapy, my own reactions to other people. Nothing felt hard to understand either. Everything was written in digestible pieces. I’ve given it 4.5 stars because I know this book is going to sit with me for a while, and I know I’m going to recommend it a lot.
