A Bride for Kolovsky by Carol Marinelli

5.0

Review of The Devil Wears Kolovsky / A Bride for Kolovsky (Alternate Titles):

SpoilerIn the last book, we saw how Kate Taylor and her five-year-old daughter Georgie (from a past relationship) crept up and settled in Aleksi Kolovsky's heart, which also helped him come to terms with his doubly horrible past. Also, Riminic Ivan Kolovsky, Ivan and Nina's firstborn, the eldest of all Kolovsky siblings is finally in control of their businesses, his revenge plan succeeding, it seems. It's a pity that Ivan wasn't alive, coz however I know that healing is needed, the Kolovsky parents don't deserve it, after all the horrible things they have done!

Oookay... apparently Lavinia (the beautiful airhead assistant PA of Aleksi Kolovsky from Book 4 about whom Aleksi and Kate joked about!?!) is the heroine in this one. I can't wrap my head around that. She was shown in a negative light in the previous book, by the end of which her 180 degree turn was less than believable, and now in this book, she is centre stage.

The book starts with Zakahr Belenki (or Riminic Ivan Kolovsky, the name he left behind) in a smug mood, going towards the Kolovsky offices, thinking that his revenge against them is complete. Moreover, for this European magnate, the fashion house of Kolovsky is but loose change to a portfolio like a Belenki's.

Nina is in a private psychiatric hospital (Is justice served then?). All the Kolovsky brothers and sister having washed their hands of the business, Lavinia couldn't inform anyone that she needed a leave. Her little half-sister Rachael, who's in kindergarten, was put into foster care, instead of her care, and she is having sleepless nights because of that. It's been a year since her mother died (she was a prostitute), and she doesn't know who her father is/was, not even her mother knows. The business having changed hands, she worries about her job too. Her entrance was pretty entertaining. To keep up appearances, which is a Kolovsky fashion house trait after all, she applies makeup under the watchful eye of Zakahr, unabashedly. It was so funny to read that! And having faced tempers of Nina, Levander, and Aleksi, Zakahr doesn't faze her, at all.

"Lavinia wore the title of Assistant PA, but was aware she had been hired more as an attractive accessory—a bright and breezy attractive accessory—which was an essential role within Kolovsky."

as the call, so the echo.

Lavinia's mother is also a piece of work. Rachael's father was trying to defame her so that she doesn't get her custody. From the age of sixteen, she has supported herself, often doing sleazy jobs. Lavinia couldn't help but compare her too quiet sister with a kid Zakahr.

I take back my earlier words. Lavinia is a delight to be with. A totally sassy girl, with a sharp tongue. She is intriguing, yet open, beguiling, a complete chatterbox, ooof... So many contradictions. An interesting twist, Lavinia knows how twisted and manipulative both his mother and Nina are, still she visits Nina in psych hospital and cares for her! Surprising! What's more surprising is that Nina asks after Lavinia's kid sister. She does seem to have a humane side! Zakahr doesn't know that Lavinia knows all about his true identity, that he is actually Riminic.

After taking over Kolovsky's fashion house, during staff interviews, he gets a very negative feedback about Lavinia, to the point of thinking of her a slut. He is at war with his own assesment of her, and what everyone on the staff says.

She blurts it out early in the book to Zakahr about trying to take custody of her young sister, who's living with her father and his new partner, who clearly don't want her, but are still opposing her custody. She herself wasn't loved by her mother, and fears the same fate will fall on her sister. She also confronts Zakahr about his real identity. Atta girl, Lavinia! I'm loving her by the minute. I love how she baits him, the most dangerous, unpredictable of Kolovsky brothers. And he does wear Kolovsky, even if it's a tie. And he is the devil, as I'm sure Lavinia agreed at one point. The name of the book just fit!

Zakahr is out to destroy The House of Kolovsky, winding up its offices. That's what he does, he is in that business. But after he attempts to pay her off, the way she stonewalls him is just lovely... Way to go, Lavinia! But he can't go through with it, as he glimpses himself in Rachael. And also because of his love for Lavinia.

After reading how bored Zakahr is hearing the fashion side of things, I wonder how Levander handled it for so many years, being a finance guy.

First time I read about a heroine who at one point, flirts outrageously. A delightful read, this!

The Kolovsky bridal gown finally goes to the technically rightful heir, Zakahr's (the eldest's) bride, Lavinia. A perfect ending to the entire series, I say! It's beautiful how Lavinia brought them all together. And the subtle hint at the end of their impending parenthood, with a smiling Rachael at their wedding...hmm...What do I do now, that this series came to an end!

P.S. Some of the sex scenes in all the books are much too graphic! But, I loved 'em all!

I have used certain phrases from the books in my reviews.

These books are heavy on proverbs, especially in Book 1,4,5. Why? Coz Iosef (Book 2) and Annika (Book 3) had it easier than the others. Or maybe they skipped my attention.
