Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller
3.0

The reason we read fiction is to get a perspective of the world beyond our own, and sometimes we won't like what we see. Never has Paris seemed so filthy, desperate and ugly as when Miller describes it. Brutal and sexy descriptions of the bohemian expat community, although I found his treatment of the women in this book troubling. Miller's free association writing style can be hard to follow at times, but in other places his way with words is masterful.
