This book was astonishingly good. It gave me many of the same reactions I had to the Handmaid’s Tale: many a squirm and a grimace, but also an awe for the use of language and the immersive, believable setting. However, this book, in my point of view, offered so much more.  I love multiple POV’s, I love lovable villains, I love sweet friendship, entwined characters and being able to theorize about how everything is connected. This book brought closure to the Handmaid’s Tale and therefore, brought peace to my mind.  It made me think about what the Bible truly says vs what the culture I was raised in teaches. Somehow, the characters’ journeys through belief helped me feel validated. It’s messy and scary to question your beliefs and the way you were raised, and conforming is the easy option.
Who would we be if we didn’t conform?
