Dream of Me by Quinn Loftis

I hated this book
I enjoyed the elfin series but I couldn't manage to get past about a third of this book.
First off Sarah Serenity is the biggest Mary Sue I've ever read, and I've seen a lot. In a small town she is literally in involved in every imaginable charity possible and still manages to work at a vet clinic in the meantime so she can help support her aunt and uncle. She's also apparently gorgeous, with a smile that makes people want to move mountains or something. But of course she's never dated anyone because she is so wonderful and pure that she hasn't been able to find someone worth her time. Of course this doesn't stop boys from wanting to date her!! But she doesn't notice this either. I don't know how this girl finds time in the day to manage all of the wonderful things she does. It helps of course that she's destined to change history one day. it's only natural that someone this amazing and self-sacrificing could only be loved by someone just as amazing. which less me top Dair.
Dair is the Sandman, an ancient and powerful being bringing dreams to those who are meant to change the world. So he must be mysterious and enigmatic as befits a mystic figure. Right? Wrong. All it takes is one look at Sarah and her selflessness to turn him into a two dimensional weak character. Within a few days he falls madly in love with her; HE HASN'T EVEN TALKED TO HER YET!!! And once he does it only takes a week or so for them to be hopelessly in love. But of course it makes sense since the two of them are the most perfect people/beings to ever walk the Earth. Being so old you'd think he'd have some depth but no, he's insta-perfect. This mythic being can drive, has a repertoire of dirty jokes, loves pizza etc. etc. He's every girl's dream. Except one thing: he's misogynistic. He gives a whole speech about how men and women have their places and that the suffrage pains him because women were going against God's plan. Men need to provide, women need to have kids, that whole deal. Of course Sarah finds it hot. The way he talks is also weirdly stilted in a failed attempt to make him sound at least a little archaic.
The other characters are weak and two-dimensional for the most part as well. Her aunt is a self-sacrificing women who also happens to cook really well. Her uncle is a hard-working man with a penchant for dirty jokes. Her best friend is a self-sacrificing girl who have up everything to take care of her mom.
The only character with any real dimension is Emma who at least has some adversity and hardship to overcome.
I was also underwhelmed by the story itself. To be fair I only read 33% so I'm sure it picks up but I'm frustrated by the fact that it's still so slow a third of the way in. The language itself isn't too bad, some of the phrases are really pretty, but the plot was disappointing.
Maybe I'll go back and try to finish it sometime but for now I think I'll let it rest
