The End of Eddy
by Édouard Louis
Trauma alone doesn’t make a good book. It feels like I’ve read hundreds of stories just like this one, but with more depth and stronger writing. My main issue is the lack of connection between the reader and the protagonist. In a story this sad, it’s crucial for the author to evoke some empathy, but that was completely missing here. The writing also kept the main character at arm’s length throughout, making the whole book feel bland and emotionless.
