The Fervor
by Alma Katsu
That was incredibly dark and depressing. The story, rooted in historical events about WWII internment camps, medical experiments, xenophobia, etc., was hauntingly detailed. The blend of historical reality with horror and the paranormal created an intense and unsettling atmosphere. The storytelling was powerful and thought-provoking, with compelling characters and a well-executed multi-POV structure. I found it to be very well written and deeply moving.
