The Legion of Flame by Anthony Ryan

2.0

I really liked book 1 of this series. However this one was not as enjoyable. For the first half of the book, it seems every chapter is a lot of not much happening, and then one SHOCKING thing happening... only for the chapter to end. So I have no interest in the main storyline to return to that character, except to see how they get out of their predicament.
My other issue is the driving force behind one of the storylines. Spoilers for the previous book- Claydon Torcreek had a vision of the future, where he and another character were approaching a spire in the ice, presumably to 'save the world'. In this book, they're trying to find that location. My problem is that the drive is the vision. Beyond that, they're given no secondary reason for going that way. I almost wanted them to get there and find nothing, because they had no information beyond a vision telling him he would be there.
Very frustrating read for me, particularly remembering how amazing Blood Song is. I like this book so little I'll probably leave it in Europe on my holiday to make space in my luggage. I'll still probably get book 3 on kindle, but I'm not hanging out for it.
