Lost Stars by Erin Hunter
3.0

As a fan of Warriors for well over a decade, I think this is where the series and I finally part ways. I had already slacked off around the Vision of Shadows series and coming back into this was jarring to say the least-- man, ThunderClan really does just keep breeding (as animator Moonkitti has said, there are wa-a-ay too many cats in ThunderClan right now to have any kind of meaningful community cohesion). I do think that the newest books are heading in a good direction, with significantly tighter writing than say, the Omen of the Stars arc, but the split perspectives still really hold this book back as it feels constantly unfocused. I appreciate each of the new narrators individually, but with slow pacing and a relatively small size it always feels like they're grappling for space with their small-scale conflicts (besides Shadowpaw). I also found Bristlefrost's issues... shallow. Warriors inter-character drama is always hit-or-miss, but it either really hits or it really misses. Cat Romance is especially a general weak point and the focus on it just draaaaaaags.

I am well aware these things have always been issues. If anything, I think they are likely better in this book than in previous series, as said above. I just think that this will, for now, at least, probably be all for me on the Cats Fighting series. Godspeed, Warriors fandom.
