I was skeptical, but I loved this book. It took me a few (very short) chapters to get a hold of the story, then I soared through it. Maybe I don’t read enough fantasy, but I didn’t find it predicable and the ending surprised me. This book was rad.
This story is largely a vampire hunger games-ish situation, but it had several sweet and thoughtful moments spread throughout. Reflections on friendship, found family, political systems, how we value some people over others, etc.
A fun read that also has depth to it, in my humble opinion. Would recommend.
I’ll add, if you aren’t big on reading series (hi, it’s me) - I’m comfortable with this as a stand-alone. The ending is a total cliffhanger, but that’s fine by me.
