Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

4.0

This book deserves it's full four stars I gave it but that's kind of disappointing if you consider my ratings for the mortal instruments or the infernal devices. Maybe I just got too old for those kind of stories and love or maybe the topic is just to familiar with me now allthough I suppose I would really love reading the infernal devices all over again and it would tear me apart like the first time. Lady Midnight however didn't make me wanna stuff my heart into the trash and burn it with all my horrible feelings, no this was a pleasant and enjoyable read but nothing more (That makes me very sad) I can't really connect to the main charakters Emma and Jules allthoug I always could in Cassies books. However I fell in love with Mark Blackthorn, just as I have predicted from all that snippets and characteristics and art Cassandra Jean made. I missed the sassy hot boy aka Jace/Will Herondale in this novel and part of it was replaced by Mark but he obviously can't fill the whole place since he's kind of too nice or whatever. The relationship between Emma and Mark is boring and you can't really feel the pain so you might already guess that I really enjoyed when
Spoiler Emma "broke up" with Julian an asked Mark to pretend to be in love with her (I always had a thing for fake romance) and Mark was just "why pretend" omg I loved that line and I hope they will have a thing for real and Emma will catch some feelings for Mark and everything will be really hard for poor Julian. But as I already know Cassie it will probably be sth. like that: Mark will fall in love with Emma and Emma would really start to care about Mark but there would be no love between them. Jem will somehow release Jules and Emma from their parabatai oath and they will be happily together (of course only in book three) and Mark will either end up alone, with Kieran or with Christina (allthough I guess this is unlikely )
The writing was great, as always. I didnt like how Cassie presented the big Blackthorn family, since I also have a bunch of sibling I know that especially when you're younger there is a lot more "hate" fighting and bitching around between siblings and not that harmonical pancake tram tram that we see with the Blackthorns and no it doesn't matter that they've had a difficult childhood. That's just not how it works especially since they don't have a strict father figure in their life and I''m talking about real authority. Also Malcom Fades name was really cheap. Why can't Cassie come up with something that hasn't got the same emphasis and rhythm as Magnus Bane? Why not call him Hieronymus Rubbledawn or something like that? It would sound so much cooler. I really really enjoyed the atmosphere of the necromancy and Annabel Lee theme and motives. They gave the story a great, mysterious and dark blue, cold touch just like the cold water in deep sea. I just have this image of Annabels dark hair floating in the water in mind and it really makes me shiver
I have the feeling that Christina has far too little Charakter to be one of the main charakters. Apparently she believes in the Angel and all of his laws and stuff but on the other side she reacts like some hippie with "do whatever you want in live, the angel has a path for you" huh? Please show charakter Christina or I'm going to sop shipping you with my dear, lovely Mark. Didn't Cassie tell us that Jules was going to be the cooles of all the main love interests and that he was going to smoke? All lies, everywhere. He didn't smoke once in the whole book and also he seems to be a rag. He's just to much of a father figure to be a "cool" guy. I also like that Emma is the heartbreaker in this book, at least Cassie managed to change one single thing from her other series. (I can't believe that I'm sounding so mean) Au revoir, I'm going to bring back love!
