No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood

4.0

Wow wow wow. Wow. I have this lump in my throat that hasn’t gone away since I started this book. Patricia Lockwood is massively talented because the lyricism with which she captured online culture was incredible. She described social media (and more specifically social media with Tik Tok’s influence) in a way that perfectly captures my feelings toward it. It is this all consuming void that dictates all thoughts and feelings (I recently deleted Tik Tok because I realized I had lost any sense of my personal identity and interests).

She moved gracefully into part two which was just a shock to the system in the best way. Watching the narrator regain a sense of wonder in the world felt so personal and close. Lockwood never made the notion of “life outside of social media” feel like a corny motivational quote. For the narrator and the reader, it became the only solace for questions of life and death and meaning.

I feel like I have more to say but I’ve also said enough. Incredible read for a time where life feels doomed due to the state of our climate and politics.
