Servant of Earth by Sarah Hawley

"Hope was what we made it. I wasn't going to wait for someone else to create that future for me. I was going to seize it with my own two hands, then carve it into the shape I wanted."

I don’t understand how more people aren’t talking about this book?! IT WAS SO GOOD.

For me to finish a book in less than 24 hours genuinely speaks for itself. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn’t put it down! This was just such a pleasant surprise.

Insanely addictive and easy-to-digest writing paired with unknowns and mysteries that propel you forward. To me, this felt like everything I have been wanting the new adult + fantasy romance genre to be in areas other books often lack. It was fully fleshed out, everything had motive and made sense, there were complex emotions and themes, the characters and relationships were developed and believable, and the writing/dialogue wasn’t cringey or immature. I also really enjoyed Kenna as an FMC and found that she was easy to root for as well as many of the other characters.

••• I just learned this book was 7 years in the making with several rounds of edits and YOU. CAN. TELL. so many books nowadays are written and spit out way too quickly and are often extremely underdeveloped and lacking in areas but this was SO SOLID all around.

I know the genre sometimes feels so overwhelmed and saturated with Fae that oftentimes end up being a let down because it’s just the same thing regurgitated over and over, but this fully delivered in a way that still felt unique and a story that stands on its own. The plot and world were so strong and well developed that the romance wasn’t even a necessity in my opinion. It was “predictable” but personally not in a bad way- it was in a way that was fun, where the crumbs laid out actually made sense and allowed you to put pieces together. It was also so cohesive and didn’t feel like just going down a list of tropes and checking them off.

If you love messy fae antics, politics, drama, secrets, high stakes, scheming, elemental magic, dark themes, trials, and an ACOTAR-esque vibe that still felt unique and fresh, then read this book immediately!

I cannot wait until book 2!!!
