Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi
2.0
I wanted to give this one star, but I gave it two only because I liked one of the characters in the book. I stand by my comment that reading this book is like chewing on wet cardboard that has been sprinkled with Maggi tastemaker powder.
It's not filling, it's not tasty, but it has a hint of a taste in it. I did not learn anything important from the book, whether about Iraq, the war, or some idea of faith that the writer tried to write about. The book goes on and on about...war, atrocities, people hanging on to hope, or some other concepts that the book was not able to make clear in the myriads of concepts that it kept trying to touch upon.
I am still not sure what kind of story this is. I dragged myself through the last hundred pages and the end left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
I should have stuck to reading Discworld.
