Mørkets gjerninger by Elizabeth George

I'm not a crime fan, really, but this one worked for me. It is the old fashioned English village whodunnit with a detective duo consisting of two very contrasting personalities.

I liked the characters, their interactions and the setting. The writing was good as well, but I fear the translation might have done more harm than good, because words like "baby", "sweetheart" and so on simply do not work in dialogue when translated to their Norwegian counterparts. Maybe we Norwegians are simply cold and unloving, but seeing as we don't use those words like they are used in English, much of the dialogue felt a bit off.

The story itself was well put together, sad, scary and haunting, and, really, this is my kind of crime novel. Crime is a bit depressing to me, but the characters in this one made it very likeable. It does give off some Agatha Christie-vibes, to be sure.
