Nameless Fate by Stephanie West

5.0

I loved this book. I was impressed with the world and the story. There was a lot of thought put into the background and the ultimate goal of these characters. Yes, this happens in every book, but as I've read over 80 fated mate or alien romance books this year, this one seemed to be more of a "story" and there was a lot more for the characters to overcome in order to get to their HEA. Then again, it was longer than the books I usually read.

In this series, Harper is abducted from Earth and sent to Torvus (?) to be the consort of the prince. When she essentially refuses, the king sends her to an underground prison. She was a bounty hunter on Earth so she has some survival skills, but mostly survives by the help and protection of "Nameless", who she also calls "Shadow" who has been in prison since he was 15 and before that an orphanage. They work with others to find a way out of the prison (before that I really enjoyed Harper's friendship with a group of primitive people that live near the prison essentially underground) but along the way Harper is hurt, bringing them together with Galen, a healer of sorts, who ends up telling Nameless about his history and who he really is.

Then after they get out they need to find and kill Kral Not, the king, who was the reason that Nameless had been repeatedly under attack and in the prison and save the prince who has been abused by the king his whole life.

I feel like this could be a standalone if you want it to be, but in the epilogue there is a cliffhanger to the next book, and since there are only 3 in the series, you may as well read them all ;) I know I will.
