The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon
5.0

No joke, The Bone Season is quickly becoming my very favourite series. It’s been such a long time since any books made me as excited as these make me. After struggling with reading slumps for the past year, Samantha Shannon has pulled me straight out of that spiral.

I cannot promise a coherent review, I’m still reeling from that plot twist cliffhanger (very grateful I already have book 3 ready to start) and this is likely to just be a rambling about how much I adored this book. I’ve spoken in my other TBS reviews about how spectacular the world building in this series is, and that statement still applies, and I love how the world, particularly the dystopian aspects, were expanded upon. I genuinely think this is the best dystopian fantasy series out there, and I cannot give Shannon enough credit for how wonderfully she has crafted this world.

What I want to focus on for this review, however, is the characters and relationships. The TBS series, and this book in particular, have such an expansive cast of characters, and yet they are all so wonderfully unique and individual, their voices so clear. Every single character, whenever you love or hate them, will have you utterly captivated, and I’ve not found many books that do that. The relationships (romantic, familial, friendship, enemies) are all so well crafted and raw and real, and I cannot wait to see how they will continue to develop.

This book was high stakes, unflinching violent (in the best of ways) and full of inspiring protest. There were twisting threads of mystery around every corner that had me hooked more and more with every page I turned. This book was completely unputdownable, and I cannot wait to start book 3!
