Les Liaisons Dangereuses
by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, George Barbier
At times wickedly funny, always scathing and observant, with a pair of completely amoral anti-heroes... This novel in letters was amazing. I can't believe both how clear-sighted and cynical it is about love and sex and that it was written before the French Revolution! There is a lot to say about the strong pro-woman commentary throughout, too. My only real complaint was that, though sharp and interesting, there was no heart or sympathetic characters and it took me awhile to finish it.
